The site was on the edge of a reservoir and canoeing was an option however there was a lot of motorized boats causing a lot of wake &#8211; outside of my comfort level so we had to hike in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emmy was very excited to use the trekking poles and to make smores (of course)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>5 mins into hiking Emmy declares, &#8220;I love backcountry camping&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I am nervous about backcountry camping&#8221; &#8211; I love that she has the self-awareness and we had a great conversation about what she was scared about. A few minutes later she says, &#8220;It&#8217;s just like the Rosie Rivere book!&#8221; &#8212; this book has a quote something like, &#8220;Things aren&#8217;t meant to be feared, simply to be understood&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emmy collected firewood all by herself! She stayed within eyesight and was an excellent gatherer!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respecting the fire and roasting marshmallows together &#8211; Emmy was so careful and understood the risks\/dangers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being scared of leaf silhouettes on the tent. She didn&#8217;t want them there! But then she wanted me to take a pic to send to Mummy! Silly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being a trooper! Her little legs got tired often and I carried her to give her a break. After a particularly tough climb I was pretty out of breath and she could tell I was beat &#8211; she insisted on getting down to give me a break!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sharing burgers&#8230; After a little campfire cooking oops (AKA I dropped a burger into the fire), Emmy said &#8220;that&#8217;s okay we can share Daddy&#8221; &#8211; luckily the burgers we brought were massive. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I am a professional smore maker&#8221; &#8211; declared Emmy after her first smore<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I am professional at backcountry camping&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emmy stopping and asking &#8220;what&#8217;s that sound?&#8221; at literally every sound<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emmy stopping and asking &#8220;what&#8217;s that smell?
